Young, wild and free: welcome Levharti Chomutov!

Updated: Oct 12, 2022

Levharti Chomutov is the third club from the Czech Republic, which will play in the European Women`s Basketball league.

Žabiny Brno entered the EWBL in its third season.

The Frogs have played four seasons in the competition (2017-2020, 2021-2022) and recently won the first title at the Final Four in Pieštany, Slovakia.

SBŠ Ostrava joined the league one year later and has been registered for the fifth consecutive season.

Brno and Ostrava are located in the eastern part of the Czech Republic – both are major cities in Moravia region.

Chomutov is located 90 kilometers northwest of Prague, close to the German border and the Ore mountains.

The club was founded in 1946 and obtained its new identity in 2010.

Men`s team has an eight season experience in the Kooperativa National Basketball league (1996-2000, 2003-2004, 2011-2013).

Chomutov women joined the Renomia Ženská basketbalová liga in 2019.

The team earned the fifth place in 2021 after a pair of successful series against SBŠ Ostrava (138-133) and Loko Trutnov (145-133).

Last season Chomutov finished in the sixth place.

The playoffs started just like in 2021 – Chomutov dropped the quarterfinal series against Sokol Hradec Kralove.

The next step – the home and away series against Slovanka MB ended with a 137-125 win.

Chomutov played for the fifth place again but this time dropped the game against Slavia Praha.

Last but not least, Chomutov earned the third place in the Czech Cup.

Offseason brought some good news from the European courts.

Guard Valentýna Kadlecová and center Lucie Ceralová earned the silver medal at the 2022 European U20 championship in Sopron, Hungary.

A 2004 born Kadlecová scored 23 points in a 65-63 semifinal win over France.

She made the All Tournament team the next day.

Kadlecová joined the U18 team then to finish sixth at the European Championship in Crete.

It was enough to book a trip to the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup in Madrid.

Center Johana Staňková also represented Chomutov on the Greek island.

Forward Marie Staňková played at the European U16 Championship in Matosinhos, Portugal.

Center Monika Satoranská is a cousin of NBA player Tomáš Satoranský.

Last season she returned to the court after a birth of her baby girl.

Point guard Kateřina Bartoňová represented the Czech Republic at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The Czechs finished in the seventh place.

Forward Michaela Krejzová joined the National team at the Women`s EuroBasket 2023 qualifiers.

A 19 year old Ukrainian center Anastasia Kovtun was rented to the EuroLeague Women team USK Praha but returned to Chomutov just before the playoffs.

Her older sister Mary briefly played for TTT Rīga.

Jozef Rešetár is the head coach of Chomutov, assisted by Petr Treml and Pavel Staněk.
