Moore and Breen shine bright, Polonia Warszawa outlast Nyon Basket




Consistency and patience paid off for Polonia Warszawa as Jerome Fournier and his team defeated tenacious Nyon Basket, 82-79, on Wednesday, December 4, at the Centrum Sportu Wilanow in the Polish capital.


Players of the game

Focused, consistent, reliable – Sierra Moore shined for Polonia Warszawa.


Pennsylvania State University star scored 22 points on 10/14 shooting from the field.


Moore added a team high 10 rebounds and five assists for efficiency rating of 26.


Daria Dubniuk provided a bright spark from the bench.


Ukrainian player registered 15 points and a game high four steals.


In fact, Nyon Basket collected four steals in total.


Javyn Nicholson (University of Georgia 2024) posted 14 points and seven rebounds for the winners.


Anna Pawlowska scored all seven of her points in the second half.


She dished out five assists too.


Samantha Breen led Nyon Basket with 32 points on 12/22 shooting from the field.


It was one of the best shooting performances in the EWBL history.


Najai Wynn-Pollard (Levharti Chomutov on October 29, 2022) and Krystyna Fylevich (Frankivsk on February 2, 2024) share EWBL scoring record with 41 points apiece.


Breen, a former UMass star, added a game 14 rebounds and two steals.


Shannon Coffee and Laure Margot scored 13 points each.


Ukraine international Miriam Uro-Nilie finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Key stats

Polonia Warszawa focused in the paint and shot 17/27 from the two point line at the half.


Nyon Basket used a different strategy and shot 7/16 from the three point line.


Polonia Warszawa led by as much as 14 points early in the second quarter.


Nyon Basket cut the gap to four points at the half, 46-42.


Swiss vice-champion took a lead early in the second half but their advantage didn`t exceeded four points.


Fouls mattered too as Polonia Warszawa players went to the line multiple times in the final minute.


They split most of their free throws for a 15/29 total but visitors missed most of their field goal attempts in the final minutes.



Game notes

Polonia Warszawa improved to 1-1, while Nyon Basket dropped to 0-2.


It was a huge win for the Black Shirts as they posted their previous win on October 12.


A winning streak may await if they stay the course.


Both teams will face Frankivsk Prykarpattya later this week.
