Breen flirts with triple-double, Nyon deliver first loss to SBŠ Ostrava

Samantha Breen had an amazing game and led Nyon Basket past previously undefeated SBŠ Ostrava, 94-77, on Friday, January 10, at the Centre sportif du Rocher in western Switzerland.

Nyon is known as the capital of European football – UEFA headquarters are located right on the banks of picturesque Lake Geneva (Lac Leman).


This weekend town hosts three EWBL games.


Samantha Breen shined for Nyon Basket – just like she does on every game night.


UMass star led her team in 10 categories.


Breen scored 23 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out seven assists.


She also registered seven steals, one block and efficiency rating of 36.


Miriam Uro-Nilie scored 20 points on 6/9 shooting from the field and 5/6 from the free throw line.


Ukraine international went 3/4 from the three point line.


Shannon Coffee had 13 points.


The 2017 NCAA Final Four participant with Stanford blocked one shot too.


Keira Robinson checked out with 12 points and seven rebounds.


A former Virginia Commonwealth University guard added three assists and three steals.


Iva Beloševič scored 16 points on 8/13 shooting from the field for SBŠ Ostrava.


Oliana Squires also had 16 points.

Key stats

Teams played fast paced high scoring basketball.


First half was a rollercoaster with many lead changes.


Adela Smutna went 4/4 from the field, including a 3/3 effort from the three point line.


Miriam Uro Nilie also didn`t missed from the deep, while Samantha Breen was omnipresent.


Nyon Basket won the first half, 50-45.


The hosts were unstoppable throughout the second and third quarter, combining for 58 points.


Breen`s efforts in defense opened new looks in offense.


Nyon scored more points in fast breaks, 19-9, and finished the third quarter with a 79-61 advantage.


SBŠ Ostrava fought back and cut the lead to single digits but hosts prevailed in the end.

Game notes

Nyon Basket improved to 2-2, while SBŠ Ostrava dropped to 2-1.


The series are tied, 1-1, but Nyon owns the tie-breaker with +5.


Friday marked the first EWBL game in Switzerland.
