Adéla Smutná turns the tide, first final appearance for SBŠ Ostrava

SBŠ Ostrava went on a 8-0 run to defeat Polonia Warszawa, 77-68, and book the first ticket to the 2025 EWBL final on Sunday, February 2, at the Hala Ostravska Univerzita in eastern Czechia.

Adéla Smutná had a big game for SBŠ Ostrava.


Shooting guard scored 11 points in the second quarter to give her team a six points lead at the half.


Smutná added six more points in the fourth quarter to finisf with a game high 21 points.


Northwest College star had two steals, one block, six forced fouls and a +/- ratio 12.


Iva Beloševič scored 16 points on 6/11 shooting from the field and a perfect 3/3 from the charity stripe.


The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley center grabbed seven rebounds and registered a game high four steals for a efficiency rating of 21.


Lucie Valkova had 14 points on 6/8 shooting from the two point line.


Guard added three steals.


Sierra Moore led Polonia Warszawa with 15 points and 10 rebounds.


Pennsylvania State standout dished out five assists and registered three steals for efficiency rating of 20.


Klaudia Sosnowska scored 10 points.


Javyn Nicholson checked out with seven points and 14 rebounds.

Polonia Warszawa took an early lead, 8-15.


SBŠ Ostrava cut the gap to a single point by the end of the first quarter, 19-20.


Adéla Smutná and Oliana Squires hit four three pointers to put Ostrava ahead, 40-34.


Iva Beloševič extended lead up to 10 points, 44-34.


Polonia Warszawa fought back and trailed only by a single point after a three pointer by Kornelia Bukowczan, 69-68.


An unsportsmalike foul by Serena Manala ended in another turnaround.


Iva Beloševič made both free throws, while ball possession was finished with a layup by Lucie Valkova, 73-68.


Beloševič stole the ball and Smutná was fouled.


Shooting guard sank both free throws, 75-68.



Game notes

SBŠ Ostrava improved to 5-1, while Polonia Warszawa dropped to 3-2.


Czech team posted second consecutive win against the Black Shirts, but trail in the series, 2-3.


Iveta Raškova and her team won the first place in the regular season.


SBŠ Ostrava will play in the EWBL final for the first time, after missing a chance in 2024.


Polonia Warszawa will travel to Nyon to fight for a remaining ticket to the final.
