Tsmoki Minsk goes back to back, beats Astana

Tsmoki Minsk allowed only 12 points in the second half in a Group B match-up against the Astana Tigers, to beat the Kazakhstan champions 62-43 on Friday, October 6.

Kai Afi James was a driving force under the basket. Florida State graduate and New York Liberty training camp participant had a team high 16 points and seven rebounds. James added two blocked shots for a efficiency rating of 18.

Hanna Lapo was impressive too. She posted 14 points and six rebounds, while Rachel Theriot had seven points, five rebounds and a game high four steals. Tamara Yagodkina replied with 16 points and four rebounds.

Key stats

The game was the story of two halves. Astana won the first quarter (14-15) and maintained a minimum lead after the second (30-31) but couldn`t score after the break. The Tigers posted just four points in the third quarter and eight points in the final 10 minutes.

Kai Afi James and Viktoryia Hasper dominated under the baskets. The Dragons scored 32 points in the paint, while the Tigers replied with 12 points. Belarus champions and Cup winners were better in defense too, scoring 19 points off turnovers (Tigers got 12).
