Reed magic lifts Lulea Basket over Žabiny Brno

Lulea Basket overcame a chaotic start and, thanks to a star performance by Chastity Reed, bring down the Žabiny Brno with a crucial 75-66 win on Saturday, January 12, at Lulea Energi Arena.

Chastity Reed (Arkansas at Little Rock) showed one of the most memorable performances this season. She was close to the second triple-double in the EWBL history.

Reed scored 27 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field and connected 5-of-7 free throws. She chipped in six points in the final four minutes of the game.

Lulea star added a game high 13 rebounds and seven assists for a efficiency rating of 38. Reed also had three steals and six forced fouls.

Kristina Alminaite contributed with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Towering Lithuanian center added five rebounds and three blocks for a efficiency rating of 19.

Chioma Nnamaka stepped up her game after a slow start to finish with a solid stat line – 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Precious Hall (James Madison University) registered 10 points and a team high four steals.

Petra Zaplatova replied with 22 points and five rebonunds. She also forced five fouls.

Beata Adamcova had 10 points, while Michaela Vackova filled the stat sheet with eight points, nine rebounds, four assists and five steals.


Key stats

Petra Zaplatova and Marques Webb missed previous game against TTT Rīga due to illness.

Zaplatova jumped in for a quick start with five points in five minutes, but ran into a foul trouble early – she had three fouls midway the first quarter.

Chastity Reed scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished four assists in the first half to keep her team alive 34-37.

Nnamaka and Alminaite added more fire power in the second half, while Reed scored another six points in the clutch time.

The Frogs won the battle of rebounds (43-46) but scored just nine (9) second chance points off 18 offensive rebounds.

Žabiny also connected 5-of-29 three point shots, compared to 5-of-14 by Lulea Basket.

Three pointer by Michaela Vackova tied the game at 58 with 05:20 left.

Lulea Basket went on a 11-0 run to seal the game.

The hosts improved to 5-1, secured the second place in the Group B and avoided a quarterfinal clash against A3 Basket.
