Nika return to winning ways, TTT top Group B

Syktyvkar Nika didn`t left Latvian capital with empty hands. Russian Premier League team won its encounter against Kibirkštis MRU 65-57 for a third place finish in Group B on Tuesday, January 26.

Mariia Cherepanova scored 14 points and grabbed 11 points for the winners. She also stole the ball twice and blocked two shots for a game high efficiency rating of 22.

Arsenia Matveeva stepped up to register 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting. She had three steals too.

Ekaterina Riabova and Lindsay Allen scored nine points each.

Jacqueline Luna-Castro replied with 14 points. Mexico standout grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots for a team high efficiency rating of 16.

Ieva Savickaite had 11 points and six rebounds.


Key stats

Lindsay Allen, Kiara Leslie and two Russian national team players – Ekaterina Fedorenkova and Alexandra Marchenkova – combined for 22 points but the rest of the team scored 43 points.

Nika won the battle of rebounds (40-32, offensive rebounds 17-10) and played better defense (steals 9-6, blocked shots 5-2).

Both teams struggled from the three point line – Nika players shot 4-of-23, while Kibirkštis 2-of-14.

Komi region team led by as much as 16 points and stopped all comeback attempts by the Sparks.

TTT Rīga secured the first place in Group B. Nika finished third, while Kibirkštis took the fourth position.
