Cheren lifts Nika over Tsmoki Minsk

Victoria Cheren scored six points and blocked two shots in the fourth quarter to secure a 72-67 win for Nika Syktyvkar over the hosts Tsmoki Minsk on Tuesday, January 12, at Minsk-2006 gym.

Victoria Cheren scored the final four points for the Russian Premier League team and finished the game with 15 points.

Power forward added seven points and three assists for a efficiency rating of 17. Krasnodar native also blocked two shots and stole the ball once.

Mariia Cherepanova blocked four shots. Russia international posted impressive stat line with 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal for a team high efficiency rating of 20.

Ekaterina Fedorenkova led Syktyvkar with 19 points. Alexandra Marchenkova posted great double-double, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Britney Cimone Jones impressed for the home team. American guard scored 21 points and dished out six assists for a game high efficiency rating of 27.

University of Alabama at Birmingham graduate grabbed six rebounds, stole the ball twice and blocked two shots.

Kseniya Vabishchevich added 12 points but her final attempt to tie the game at 67-70 was blocked by Cherepanova.

 

Key stats

Nika outrebounded Tsmoki 51-35 (offensive rebounds 13-5) and scored more second chance points (16-1).

Syktyvkar starters scored 65 points, compared to 52 points for Tsmoki.

Cherepanova, Cheren and Marchenkova combined for seven blocked shots, including some big ones in the fourth quarter.

Dmitry Shumikhin collected five wins in the strong Russian Premier League and added first victory of the season in the EWBL.
