Balazova, Kozakova, Logic and Blanarova score 71 points, Young Angels win again

Young Angels Košice (3-2) returned to the winning ways and scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to beat Astana Tigers 78-73 on Sunday, December 2 at Rostov on Don, Russia.

Her previous record in tournament was eight points against Rostov Don SFEDU. On Sunday Michaela Balazova led all scorers with 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field and perfect 7-of-7 in free throws.

Nineteen year old player added five rebounds, one assist, two steals and a +/- ratio 12 for a efficiency rating of 21. Balazova was fouled out shortly before the end of the game.

Denisa Blanarova checked-in with double-double. She had 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds for a game high efficiency rating of 27.

Samantha Rae Logic (University of Iowa 2015) was highly effective as usual. She scored 16 points, dished five assists and got five steals.

Vanda Kozakova provided a spark from the bench, finishing the game with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting. She also added seven boards.

Astana relied on shooting prowess of Tamara Yagodkina. She connected 5-of-10 three pointers to score a team high 21 points. Zalina Kurasova followed with 18 points.


Key stats

The Tigers led by 16 points early in the second quarter (14-30) but couldn`t stop Balazova, Blanarova, Logic and Kozakova – they combined for a 71 points in a comeback effort.

The Young Angels defended better and turned the ball over just 11 times, compared to 16 turnovers for the Kazakhstan team.

Košice also registered more steals (10-7) and rebounds (38-34, offensive rebounds 14-9).

The winners shot the ball better from the free throw line (16/18 vs 13/21).
